EXCLUSIVE: Suspected Bank-In-Distress: Diamond Bank Disengages Staffers, Cannot afford to Pay Entitlement
There is nowhere in the world where workers are disengaged without reason yet the company refuses to pay due entitlement and/or compensation; it is callous, irresponsible and conduct unbecoming from the management of Diamond Bank.
This was the opening statement from Olaide Akinwummi Janet (not real names), a former member of staff of Diamond Bank.
Janet was amongst the over four hundred (400) Diamond bank staffers recently disengaged; She turned up for work one morning only to receive a letter of termination sent to her private e-mail account.
Janet’s termination just like the Four Hundred (400) others was given absolutely no reason for the Layoff. Janet and the other 400 Diamond Bank Disengaged workers have not received their due entitlement and compensation as prescribed in Nigeria’s Labour Act Section 20 (2)
The Story becomes worse for some others who had their official bank accounts Debited for amounts as high as N900,000:00 (Nine Hundred Thousand Naira), some running into millions of Naira. These Debits were made from Diamond Bank, and no explanation whatsoever was given.
The Main issue remains If you Must Disengage workers, then you must be buoyant enough to pay them off, or is Diamond Bank running into distress?
Another Worker stated
Now the Over 400 workers Demand they be paid all entitlements as regards their sudden disengagement and immediate reversal of debits on affected accounts.
Disengaged Workers through ForthRight Chambers have written to the bank and we exclusively have a copy of the letter.
You may recall the CBN Director, Banking supervision Mrs. Tokunbo Martins recently said on Channel television that One or Two Commercial banks had failed Liquidity tests but they were not in the same situation as Skye Bank
All efforts to get Diamond Bank to pay disengaged workers as stories past stories keeps flying over their heads; there is strong indication that Diamond Bank cannot afford to pay her disengaged workers.
The Bank in defence, has stated that Workers were not disengaged, and that they have no one to pay, We also have an exclusive response as signed by both Patrick Mbagwu, and Gabriel Nwokeafor (head Business Partnering and Head human Capital Management respectively)
We think it is unfair in this very harsh economy for any establishment to hide their inability to pay their disengaged workers thus give a mis-representation of the true state of the Bank.
Disengaged workers are asking:
1. Why is Diamond bank Lying about the disengagement of workers
2. Why did Diamond bank make huge debits from staffers account
3. Why is the bank trying to avoid paying the workers they disengaged without reason
We will keep you posted as this story unfoldes

Sad!!!! Sad!!!! So so sad!!!!!! And what are the relevant authorities doing about this??? Min of Labour and Prodictivity, Legal Rights Activists, NASS. This is the height of punity for no wrong done by the ex-staff. What happens to the Section of the Labour Act that addresses redundancy? The bank should be called to explain where this is done any where in the world. An institution as big as Diamond Bank should not be found in such mess. From the response given by the bank if staff were not disengaged on grounds of redundancy they should be informed why they were asked to leave. I think the appropriate authorities have to urgently address this man's inhumanity to man. This is a wake up call on other banks without Union. These banks take advantage of this to abuse staff and throw them out when they feel they are done with them. This isn't a good one for the corporate image of the bank if it actually cares about. I hope justice is done.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy!!!
ReplyDeleteUzoma Dozie claims workers were sacked based on non performance and low appraisals. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The bank has a culture enforced during the tenure of Uzoma Dozie to only approve personal loans for staff with appraisals score of 80 and above. Several of the laid off staff have personal loans that have been crashed into their staff accounts and it is expected that the said staff should pay back. Diamond Bank PLC/Uzoma Dozie IS YET TO PAY EXITED STAFF SEVERANCE PAY BUT THEY EXPECT THEM TO PAY BACK THE LOANS. FOR THE RECORD, THE STAFF DISENGAGED ARE HIGH FLIERS, SEVERAL HAVE GOOD APPRAISALS RANGING FROM 80 TO 90, HENCE THE LOANS GRANTED THE STAFF. DIAMOND BANK/UZOMA DOZIE/HCM/GABRIEL NWOKEAFOR/PATRICK MBAGWU PAY YOUR DISENGAGED STAFF. IT IS THE HONOURABLE THING TO DO. ECO BANK DID, WHY WON'T YOU? ARE YOU DISTRESSED?
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm! I tire for capitalist system in Nigeria. The only reason an entity will not be able to live up to its own civic duty in this case is bankruptcy. It's better declared than beating about the bush.
ReplyDeleteIt so sad good people of Nigeria, I feel your pains but would as you to put your pains aside and use relevant avenues to struggle to get paid as soon as possible. I have a reliable information that there will be another mass sack by the end of this quarter. Do the needful before it gets late.
ReplyDeleteSo shocked that a bank that preaches integrity lacks it. Pay dem wat is due to dem or ur name will be dragged to the mud. U eventually will pay whether u like it or not.
ReplyDeleteAnd if banker chop money una go say na thief, wat a shame for an organization that preaches integrity...does DAT MD av integrity...I heard the previous MD was gud tho....omo una better pay dem....what kinda capitalist do they tink dey are. Heard they are running at loss sef.abajo nd dey said not redundancy..... Pls come out and wash ur name if this is not tru..b4 I go commot my money o
ReplyDeleteI guess its time i move all my money out of that bank, I really think they have wasted all of customer money. EFCC should be on this too
ReplyDeleteTheir plan might be to employ cheap labour. I saw them changing their customer care recently and making the old customer care account officers. Before you know they will sack another set. Without paying them off, like other banks instead they throw their accounts in debit. They shouldn't be allowed to get away with this. Injustice to one Nigerian is injustice to Nigeria
ReplyDeleteThis is so inhumane!
ReplyDeleteThese people dropped all have families and responsibilities. Some people rely and depend on them for their livelihood and it is cut short without prior notice and no compensation. In this kind of economy. Sheer wickedness.
The workers must be paid o.
Thank God my beloved friend who was affected had a plan B. How she for do.

Sai H2i!
Think plan B....Think H2i!
Diamond bank is a fraud how can a bank preach integrity yet they don't even know what the word means. The labour laws of this country are on the side of these ex staffs. Pay them before you drag your name further in this mud of shame. I wonder what the CBN and Nlc are doing about this.
ReplyDeleteIt is really crazy how these guy think and operate.. Uzoma Dozie is surely bringing Diamond Bank down, the bank has kept on going down on all parameters since that albino took over. They have not achieved anything close to those achieved while Alex Otti was in charge. The earlier investors and customers know this, the better for everybody involved. How in this century will you disengage staff and not pay them off? Did they walk away on their own? No. You asked them to leave, so you have to compensate them. It's seems the affected staff are even taking it lightly with them that is why it is yet to be a national topic. Rubbish..
ReplyDeleteWhat a populated and orchestrated nonsense?
ReplyDeletewhat a sarcastico-egoistic blunderous respond by an econo-capitalist aedificium?
This action can be grossly summarised as a compendium of irresponsibility and articulated greed.
The past leadership of Diamond Bank paid staff that were laid off. Why is this different in this present dispensation, considering the number of years sacrificed and the current economic situation? Is it that Diamond Bank cannot pay its disengaged staff?
ReplyDeleteIs there no justice in this country anymore. Why can't Nigerians show the world that justice prevails in this country. Must the bad people win in this country? Where ios justice??!! Diamond bank is busy spreading lies and the ppowers that be are keeping quiet. Where is NLC,ministry of labour, etc the senate. I tot ngige gave banks a 15 days ultimatum on this? One time. Diamond bank should not get away with this
ReplyDeleteuzoma dozie and his cronies are no less than the Shakespearean shylock,EFFC and CBN has a real work in their hands. anybody still keeping his funds in diamond bank is doing it at his own detriment.
ReplyDeleteThat something happens once and you get away with it doesn't make it right. Everyday for the thief one day for owner! Please can the owners of Nigerian labour catch these thieves and make them pay? They served you diligently and you sacked them and at the same time withold their entitlement. That is GROSS INJUSTICE
ReplyDeleteThis is really wicked and inhumane.used to think diamondbank was a bank with integrity but now they leave me in doubt.how can you lay off that much staff and not want pay for their years in service. The bank should do the needful.btw if they are in distress let me move my funds.I cant shout .
ReplyDeleteDiamond bank should save their face and brand and settle staff that has served the bank faithfully. This staff do not have any criminal record so why treating them like this. Uzoma Dozie's reign has been nothing to write home about. The bank has been going from bad to worst. One of the meanest things to do as an MD is to treat ur workers badly, ask virgin airline CEO.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm Diamond bank!!! Up until now, i held this bank in high esteem thinking they practice what they preach "INTEGRITY "without batting an eyelid they tell blatant lie first was that they sack based on non performance when people have their appraisal and the termination later given did not state such. Second, they lie that they did not sack at all " I guess over 400 staff decided to leave same day". Something is definitely wrong somewhere either the CEO is highly inhuman and very insensitive to the welfare of people, people who has put in their youth, sweat, dedication, commitment and all to grow the business or that the bank is really going under. To have thought that I could do anything for the bank only to be giving a dirty slap by them buh God pass them!! #giveusourseverancebenefits
ReplyDeleteAahn aahn,, this bank and negative publicity sef! As for me and my house we have moved all funds from diamond to avoid stories that touch. There's no smoke without fire.
ReplyDeleteDiamond bank is BROKE that's the simple reason they are refusing to pay staff that has served the company.its red alert for investors like us despite all their publications that the bank is OK. Comments on social media has been otherwise and we are beginning to believe it.
ReplyDeleteThe Gabriel and Patrick who signed the letter from diamondbank, you have forgotten your MD lacks integrity and is always high on drugs .you are the next set of people that will be sacked and he will come to say no one was sacked. Pls take the crazy bank to court Jare let them pay your entitlements. UZOMA keeps buying new cars and lavishing the banks money yet he doesnt want to pay people who have been in the bank even before he joined the bank such wickedness.
ReplyDeleteI foresee this bank is really, going down the drain, how can an organization lay off staff and fail to give them any severance package.Indeed they are on the verge of collapse, Depositors beware!!!
ReplyDeleteUzoma Dozie as the GMD of Diamond Bank should be made to answer for these questions as quickly as possible as continous avoidance/silence will do the Bank's already battered image no good and fuel the question "IS DIAMOND BANK BECOMING DISTRESED". Come to think of it why would a Bank terminate the appointment of over 400 staff without cause/reason and yet debit the ex-staff accounts for outstanding loans disbursed to them and claiming their appointments were terminated due to poor performance, when it is a part of its policy to only disburse loans to staff with appraisal score of 75% and above.
ReplyDeleteI see pandemonium in the bank.
ReplyDeleteUzo the boy, why will you allow such thing?
I know you to be a competent high flyer, why all these shit?
Really sad indeed. My candid advice to customers - u better run while u still gat legs. Drs no better punishment than when dia customers stops banking there.Thank God i av no cash there.
